To iPhone or Not to iPhone?

So I am currently a Verizon subscriber and the not-so-proud owner of a beat up Motorola RAZR that I hate. My contract with Verizon is not up until December. I am also an Apple freak who thinks Steve Jobs shits bricks of gold. I think the iPhone is the hottest thing since the iPod and I'm dying to buy one on June 29th. I know I can get essentially the same features on a blackberry with Verizon as what I will get with iPhone. I know Verizon has better service than AT&T. I know that I can't afford to spend $600 on phone + $175 on ending my Verizon plan early. I have no idea how much the monthly plan to get internet capabilities on the new iPhone will cost, but I'm sure it will be more than what I'm paying now. But I still want it! I need it!

What to do!? Thoughts?

Someone told me that if you "lose" your phone, they will be okay with terminating your contract w/o a penalty fee. Give that bit a try and see ;o)

Personally, I would stick with Verizon, as AT&T sucks and get your Blackberry. Plus, you can still use your device underground.

I know what it's like to want something so bad, but maybe you can wait until the price drops on the I-phone. That is a lot of money to spend on a phone, and worse yet,you lose it or it gets stolen. Whatever you decide, though, good luck and enjoy.

Problem is, while most phones these days barely work as phones anymore (with the mp3 players, etc), the first version of the iphone is probably going to end up with most people calling ATT and saying "I....have a problem"

I'd wait til all the initial bugs are worked out. Like the first ipod had it's problems til about the 4th version, I'd wait a bit on this one too.

Plus, Verizon does appear to have the best coverage for the DC Metro area, but that can be determined from phone-to-phone as my LG sucks but Motorola seems to have no reception problems.

God forbid Any of these companies have great service and great hardware. -sigh- In a perfect world.....or just not in my experience.

If Verizon had the Blackberry Pearl I would just get that and call it a day. Unfortunately their blackberries are still ugly and big. If I'm going to buy big, I want the iPhone. :)

Motorola does have good coverage on Verizon, but the software that Verizon put on the RAZR sucks. They wiped off the Motorola o/s and put on their shitty version. The RAZRs that are used on Cingular and on T-Mobile are much more user-friendly and faster. The RAZR on Verizon sucks. Period. If I don't get the iPhone, I'm definitely upgrading to a blackberry of some sort for internet usage on my next phone.

there are websites with on which you can "trade" or sell your plans in order to avoid that fee... if that helps things... here's a link to one:

Hmm. Maybe that's why my Verizon Motorola sucks, too? The whole wiping of the OS thing? Does your phone take 3 solid seconds to respond to a keystroke as well? Yeah I find it to be pretty irksome.

Anyway, I'm sorry but I'm just typing to hear myself type. I have no input on the iphone situation. It seems pretty 'spensive to me, for something that will likely not survive the first of my many droppings.

Btw, it's been clinically proven-- Steve Jobs DOES shit gold.

at least wait until your verizon contract is up, and i bet the iphone price will drop significantly. i bought my husband a digital camera that was brand new with underwater capabilities for his birthday last september. it had only been on the shelves 3 weeks. at christmas time, the price was $100 cheaper. a couple months makes a big difference, plus then you can see what people have to say about it once they actually use it...

I would listen to Beakerz and wait. They will release a 2.0 version that will be WAY better. I got the first video iPod they released and ended up buying a later version bc it was so much better...

As someone who's been using Apple products since 1990, I have to say paying a premium to beta test their products is no longer for me. I'm waiting on version 2.0.

Also, people are going to be REALLY disappointed when they use their shiny new iPhone outside of a WiFi spot.
